Students from Fanshaw College in London got some first hand experience from members of the Dry Stone Walling Across Canada building these modest dry stone walls at Canada Blooms this March 2004 in Toronto. The walls were the setting for the new plant display put up by the hosting organization, Landscape Ontario. 

Lakewinds Seminar

There is not much you can do outside on a rainy day except, perhaps, build walls without cement. The all day seminar up at Lakewinds Farm this April was one of those memorable occasions. The cold driving rain and biting wind was even worse than environment Canada had predicted for that Sunday the 25th.

Balsam Lake Workshop

The Balsam Lake dry stone wall seminar this May was another big success. John Shaw-Rimmington facilitated the rebuilding of another section of these historic 120 year old dry stone walls, built originally by Scottish masons brought over by the Laidlaws and the Mackenzies for the beautifying of their lake shore estates.

June 12th 2004, the Dry Stone Walling Across Canada held another seminar near Port Hope Ontario, taught by John Shaw-Rimmington and Dean McClellan. What a beautiful sunny day for learning how to build walls. And what a fabulous property at John and Diana Joynts to hold this event.

Highland Games of Uxbridge

The Dry Stone Walling Across Canada had a fabulous two days at the Highland Games in Uxbridge this year. Members of the DSWAC from Montreal, Whitby, Kitchener, Orangeville, along with John Shaw-Rimmington (president of the DSWAC) built a dry stone wall sheepfold out of Rip Rap stone supplied by Lafarge.

Scottish Festival Demonstration Wall

History was made on August 15th at the annual Scottish Festival in Fergus
Ontario Canada. Members of the Dry Stone Walling Across Canada
successfully attempted constructing the first 'Shaw Arch' out of 20 tonnes
of mica schist stone donated by Eisen Natural Stone..

Groundcovers Indoor Workshop

Indoor dry stone walling through December this 2005 winter season in Canada at Bethany Ontario has been wonderful. We are staying busy and warm building walls and free standing arches using different types of natural stone. While one group devotes their energy to improving their skills in utilizing round granite to produce this delightful moss and lichen covered stone wall, others work to construct a smart looking wall of flatter dolomite limestone .

Haliburton Highland Games

The Haliburton Highland Games held on July 9th east of Minden Ontario were
the scene of another demonstration by Dry Stone Walling Across
Canada. John Shaw-Rimmington and a team of crack wallers built a dry stone
sheep fold complete with stile steps and using a naturally shaped massive 53
inch lintel supported above the opening. Looking very much like the tip of a
castle emerging from the ground , the structure was built in a record 9

Cumberland House Workshop

On May 28th 2005, 12 new trainees got to participate in a walling project at Cumberland House in downtown Port Hope. 30 tons of dolomite limestone rocks were waiting to be put into place to form a dry stone wall bordering along one of the many properties with beautiful ravine lots in Port Hope.
