Canada Blooms 2008
On March 7-9 2008 DSWAC members Reid Snow, Mike Cryrka, Dean McLellan and John Shaw-Rimmington built an 8 foot diameter dry stone sphere for the 2008 Canada Blooms Show in Toronto at the Metro Convention Centre. The structure took about 12 tons of stone material to complete and stepped out from a 5 foot base to one-and-a-half feet and back in again, to create a convincingly round ball of stone. It was scary trying to determine just how much and how fast the structure could be stepped out using fairly short lengths of the stone material that was available.

Glendale BC Seminars
During the last half of October 2007, the DSWAC was invited to Glendale Gardens to help run some more dry stone walling workshops in British Columbia on Vancouver Island. These two day workshops were very well attended and produced some wonderful new stone walls which are situated near the enclosed Japanese garden and nearby, to the south of vegetable garden. The students learned how to build with dump loads of local random blasted rock (mostly boulders) as well as stack flatter gneiss rock, which is much more expensive and comes delivered on pallets.
Fourth Annual Northumberland Dry Stone Wall Festival
Many people have told us that the 2007 Northumberland Dry Stone Wall Festival was the best one ever.

Wellington Hubb Creek Bridge Seminar

The DSWAC held a special bridge building course July 29 through to August 6th at Karlo Estates near Wellington in Prince Edward County Ontario 2007. Over the 9 day period, men and women of various backgrounds coming from as far away as Texas, Alberta and Quebec attended this special hands-on workshop.

Sixth Town Historic Workshops
At Prince Edward County this June, the DSWAC ran a second beginner's course, at the historic 6th Town Workshops site. A long section of wall was completed over the two days using round local granite stones this time, instead of the local flat limestone we used for the course last year. The wall extends along another side of a reproduction cemetery enclosure being created beside the lovely Anglican church which has been moved to the property and has been restored by Diane and John Brisley.
