John Shaw-Rimmington gave a 60 minute presentation discussing the use of stone in Canadian garden settings including walls, garden features, arches and bridges. The meeting of the Parkdale and Toronto Horticultural Societies meets at the Bonar-Parkdale Presbyterian Church at 250 Dunn Avenue, Toronto,

Our first DSWAC workshop of the new year was held inside a lovely barn just outside Grafton Ontario.

The Veg Wedge

 

A new dry stone wall structure was designed for the Niagara Botanical gardens by John Shaw-Rimmington and Evan Oxland and built by the students, under the instruction of Norman Haddow and John as part of the  DSWAC  dry stone garden feature workshop at the Niagara Park Commission School of Horticulture

 

 

Beaverton One-Day 'Gothic Ruins' Dry Stone Workshop

 This November 1st  the DSWAC gave a one-day course in Beaverton Ontario at the site of an ambitious dry stone wall folly built early May 2008 to look like an old church ruins

Ten students were given a day of hands-on instruction as they added to the north wall.

40 feet of wall was worked on and brought to a height where it adds another perspective to the overall look of this unique dry stone structure

 

Uxbridge Games

This year at the Highlands of Durham Games in Uxbridge, Ontario, members of the DSWAC and enthusiastic volunteers helped in the constructing of a large dry stone Celtic cross. The structure took 7 tons of stone and was finished in the rain on the 2nd day of the event.
