Live chess characters appeared just as the DSWAC team finished this fine arch at the Renaissance Fair.

The May 24 Balsam lake seminar was a great success even though it drizzled most of the day. This kept everyone from overheating and also there was no problem with bugs. We all reminded ourselves that most of the walls in Great Britain were probably built in the rain. Hmmmm, wonder why they call it DRY stone walling? Anyway we had a dozen men and women turn out.
September 20
The recently built arch at Mason House Gardens. This was a fun project using some found stone, some quarried granite and a lot of irregular limestone from the Vicdom gravel pit just down the road from the M H gardens. Thanks Jim and Bruno for letting us have some of your rocks before they got turned into gravel.

Don't Cage Stones

On the 20th of September, the DSWAC gathered up at Balsam lake again to rebuild a section of over 100 year old wall that had been damaged by passing vehicles (snowplows and speeding motorists). The day was a great success. People seemed to quickly get the knack of working with the lovely flat limestone. We will be back in the spring to mend more of the north side of the road. Thanks to Nan for supplying lunch and tea for everyone.
The Dry Stone Walling Across Canada was at Canada Blooms again on March 9-13, 2005, participating during the actual show. This year John Shaw-Rimmington, Dean McLellan and members of the DSWAC were on hand to demonstrate 'Dryscaping', the art of building walls, arches and various garden features structurally, without manmade materials, cement or adhesives.
March 2004
Students from Fanshaw College in London got some first hand experience from members of the Dry Stone Walling Across Canada building these modest dry stone walls at Canada Blooms this March 2004 in Toronto. The walls were the setting for the new plant display put up by the hosting organization, Landscape Ontario.
