This permanent dry stone structure stands over 12 feet high and incorporates nearly 20 tons of random found stone and squared quarried limestone. This feature commemorated the 70th year of the Niagara School of Horticulture. Built over three days by several professional wallers and enthusiastic helpers, it was a great learning experience. Having never attempted something of this nature, the final result was truly inspiring.
June 21 and 22 saw two great days of walling, sun and fun! For the two days the class was given the opportunity to learn to build with granite field stone and limestone. Situated next to the partially restored Anglican Church, the setting could not have been more apropriate. The final product fit so well with the surroundings that our hosts are considering a follow-up seminar for next year! Thank you to our hosts for such a wonderful two days!
The women out numbered the men 8 to 7 in this spectacular dry stone walling workshop in Collingwood Ontario, which will be the last DSWAC course till the end of the summer. (due to how crazy hot it gets here in Canada during the summer months) The property of Ray and Cathy Goodman was the perfect setting for the event.
These Valentyne Dry Stone Wall Workshops, which were taught in September at a beautiful country property north of Uxbridge presented people with the challenge of building a 3 and a half foot high curvy dry stone wall. Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely and learned quite a lot.
On October 27th 2006 a special day of instructional was given at a workshop for some enthusiastic employees of a large landscaping company in Toronto.
Random limestone material, that is usually not considered to be good enough for using in the building of beautiful and durable dry stone walls, was used to begin creating walls along the border of a lovely property near Sunderland Ontario.
