Indoor dry stone walling through December this 2005 winter season in Canada at Bethany Ontario has been wonderful. We are staying busy and warm building walls and free standing arches using different types of natural stone. While one group devotes their energy to improving their skills in utilizing round granite to produce this delightful moss and lichen covered stone wall, others work to construct a smart looking wall of flatter dolomite limestone . Students catch on fast and seem delighted with their newly acquired skills in making two very stunning walls and gain experience using these different types of stone. All the students learn the basics then working with instructors, try something a little more challenging, as they use 'hands-on physics' to build a simple quarried-limestone arch, using only gravity for glue.
