On March 7-9 2008 DSWAC members Reid Snow, Mike Cryrka, Dean McLellan and John Shaw-Rimmington built an 8 foot diameter dry stone sphere for the 2008 Canada Blooms Show in Toronto at the Metro Convention Centre. The structure took about 12 tons of stone material to complete and stepped out from a 5 foot base to one-and-a-half feet and back in again, to create a convincingly round ball of stone. It was scary trying to determine just how much and how fast the structure could be stepped out using fairly short lengths of the stone material that was available. A cautious placement of cantilevered through stones and careful corbelling, enabled the wallers to create what has now become referred to as the Sphere of the Unknown.
