Students came from as far away as Ottawa and Vancouver Island to take this third workshop Jan 20-21, 2007 in the series of individual indoor weekend courses taught by The Dry Stone Walling Across Canada this winter at Bethany Ontario. A small cloister (writing area, herb garden or place to have tea perhaps?) was built on the second day, after the students learned the basics on 20 tons of flatter random limestone the day before.

The second DSWAC winter workshop held in Bethany Ontario incorporated using round granite stone and quarried granite to build two more sections of wall including a small gothic opening. The class was small enough that everyone got to have lots of individual hands on instruction. Students enjoyed not only the two days of stacking stone together but sharing meals together and seeing the works of other wallers and examples of many walls and dry stone structures in Scotland and Ireland.

May 24 Weekend Canton Workshops

At the first 2 outdoor workshops for 2008, put on by the Dry Stone Walling Across Canada, in Canton , on May 17 and 18,  a beautiful new structure was created by walling students coming from as far away as Ottawa and Kitchener Ontario.

Kimberly Beginners Seminar

A great two days was spent learning to build dry stone walls during a crisp (but dry) weekend in November in scenic Beaver Valley Ontario Canada. Over 40 feet of round locally collected granite and limestone fieldstone was used to construct this lovely wall. The students also got to visit a newer dry stone wall being built by professional waller Gus Butterfield which he has been working on for the last two years.

This April 2008, students at the Willowbank School of Restoration Arts took part in a two day DSWAC workshop and learned how to repair asection existing dry stone wall which had been taken apart when newdrainage pipes were dug along this historic property in QueenstonOntario.
