The Lomases were the first owners of our farm. (1862 to 1899). Edward Lomas came from England and Elizabeth from Ireland. They did tremendous work here, moving stones off the fields into piles and rows so that they could farm the land. Oliver at age 70 has been working to rebuild the piles and rows of stones into dry stone wall fences.
Oliver admits he has learned a great deal about walling. Firstly, patience is a virtue, secondly, no two stones are identical, and thirdly, mass and friction are the mason's best friends.
